Francois N Uys hails from a lineage of three generations in Africa’s transport and logistics industry, bringing a wealth of experience, especially in problem-solving, strategy, and operational solutions. Growing up in a family deeply involved in various aspects of transport, his passion for the field was ignited early in life. Raised in Namibia, a land of golden opportunities for the African continent, particularly for its landlocked neighbors, Francois matriculated in Swellendam, South Africa, and then pursued his studies at Stellenbosch.

In his second year, he specialized in Transport, allowing him to connect theory with practice. Francois began his transport career with a large family-owned business operating across all modes of transport in Southern Africa, while continuing his studies part-time at the University of Johannesburg. He qualified in Road Transport: Freight and Passengers, Air Transport: Cargo and Passengers, and Maritime. As his career progressed, his natural leadership abilities became increasingly apparent, leading him to obtain an MBL (Master’s in Business Leadership) from the University of South Africa’s Business School.

Francois started his formal career in the relocation business with Levine Namtrans Movers in Windhoek, Namibia, a month before the COVID-19 lockdown. In response to the unique challenges of the time, he devised innovative strategies to diversify Namtrans’ operations beyond the relocation market. His focus was on increasing volumes and revitalizing the business. As restrictions eased, both local and international business rebounded, and today, Francois proudly states that the company is profitable with a solid strategy for pursuing the international market. The burgeoning oil and gas sector in Namibia presents endless opportunities, and Namtrans, as a member of IAM and Harmony Relocation, is helping to open the world to Namibia.

As a Board of Directors member for the Namibian Logistics Association and other industry groups, Francois is well-versed in current affairs and boasts an extensive network globally across road transport, logistics, aviation, and legal services. IAM offers a platform for Francois to engage with a global network, an environment he thrives in and is eager to expand further. He understands the responsibilities of his representative role and is committed to providing more solutions than unresolved issues. Francois believes that sustainable solutions in every decision is crucial, and rather not only address immediate concerns, but also set new industry standards.

“The industry faces many challenges today, from global warming to political issues. Everything is interconnected through logistical networks—air, sea, rail, and road—each mode impacting the others. Sustainable solutions require proactive involvement from all industry parties to ensure success,” says Francois.

It would be a tremendous honor for me to serve on the Core Executive Committee of IAM. My priority would be to improve memberships communication and interaction in the network, offer sustainable solutions, and enhance the IAM network by improving logistical networks worldwide.
