The British Association of Removers (BAR) brought the primary challenges faced by the moving industry in the United Kingdom to the home of the government, supported by a significant number of moving vans in London’s Parliament Square.
IAM members, including White and Co., Central Moves Ltd, and Pickfords were among the moving companies participating ahead of the launch of a major new report titled “Getting Britain Moving”, which examines the role of the moving industry in the homebuying and selling process, along with the barriers that risk holding back housing mobility and economic growth.
The report sets out how the industry underpins over a million household moves each year, enabling labor mobility, supporting businesses, and keeping the housing market functioning. It also highlights key challenges, including delays and uncertainty in the homebuying process, rising operational costs, skill shortages, and the growth of an unregulated informal market.
From the report: “The removals and storage industry is essential to a functioning housing market and a growing economy, yet too often it is overlooked in policy discussions. The challenges we face, from delays in the homebuying process to rising costs and unfair competition, have real consequences for consumers and businesses alike.”
IAM Member Impact: IAM will continue to advocate and support the efforts of members and national trade associations to highlight the challenges faced by the professional moving and relocation industry.
