TheDirector General of the British Association of Removers (BAR) recently met with Member of Parliament Liam Conlon to continue their lobbying efforts for policy changes to benefit the moving industry in the United Kingdom.
With a new Prime Minister is set to take the reins of the country, the BAR said that this represents an opportunity for the government to make progress on its agenda to support British business following the publishing of the “Getting Britain Moving” report by the national moving association.
In making the case that the moving industry is an essential part of the United Kingdom’s economic infrastructure, the BAR is calling for a mandated minimum period between exchange and completion of a property sale to provide moving companies and households proper time to plan, and a requirement for the keys for a property to be released by 1:00 PM on moving day to reduce disruption.
IAM Member Impact: For U.K.-based member companies, this is a moment where advocacy timing lines up with a change in government. Members should watch to see whether BAR’s asks get any traction in early policy statements from the incoming government, as reform would directly reduce the scheduling volatility they experience.
