French shipping line CMA CGM has agreed to acquire FedEx’s third-party logistics business in a $1.4bn deal that will strengthening its position in the United States supply chain.

The transaction is the latest deal by the Marseille-headquartered company to expand through acquisitions and to diversify the shipping line into logistics, air freight and media assets, and in particular in the United States. At a meeting with President Trump last year, Chief Executive Officer Rodolphe Saadé pledged to invest US$20bn over four years to revive the American maritime sector and create 10,000 jobs.

FedEx Supply Chain, which specializes in order fulfilment and product returns for large companies, will triple the size of CMA CGM subsidiary CEVA Logistics in North America, which focuses on contract logistics. “These deals also reinforce our long-term commitment to investing in the United States and supporting the resilience and efficiency of its supply chain,” said Saadé.

In 2025, CMA CGM generated 66% of its US$54.4bn revenue from its shipping line, with the logistics division delivering US$18bn.

IAM Member Impact: For IAM freight forwarder and NVOCC members who compete for contract logistics and fulfillment work, a carrier-owned mega-logistics arm with FedEx’s former customer base is a formidable new competitor.
