Iran is reported to have seized two container vessels under the control of MSC Mediterranean Shipping after they were hit by gunfire in the Strait of Hormuz.
The captured ships were identified as the Panama-flagged MSC Francesca and the Epaminodes, with a third vessel, the Euphoria, also under attack. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement the ships “allegedly operated without authorization, repeatedly violated regulations, manipulated navigational aid systems and sought to covertly exit the Strait of Hormuz, endangering maritime security.”
MSC had previously sent four vessels successfully through the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend.
