Dutch citizens have overtaken the British and Germans as the largest group of foreign property purchasers in Spain, according to new data.
Figures released by Spain’s Notary Council record that home buyers from the Netherlands purchased 6,289 properties in the country in 2025, a 12% increase over 2024. This tops the number of German citizens, who purchased 6,233 homes, and British buyers, who acquired 6,152. British purchases fell 8.5% over the previous year, while German transactions declined by 2.6%. Overall, foreign home purchases fell by 0.8% year-over-year to just over 138,250 transactions.
The data highlights that Dutch home purchases were most popular in the Costa Blanca region , particularly Alicante, together with the province of Malaga and the towns of Marbella, Estepona, and Mijas.
IAM Member Impact: The figures continue to highlight the importance of the intra-European consumer market in Northern Europe as wealthier individuals continue to be attracted by the weather and lifestyle in Mediterranean countries.
