Düsseldorf-based HENK International has started restructuring under self-administration, with operations continuing while the company works to cut costs and restore profitability.

The Düsseldorf District Court granted HENK International’s application and ordered provisional self-administration on October 16. Under this German insolvency procedure, the company’s existing management keeps running the business under court supervision. The court appointed attorney Georg F. Kreplin of KKN Kreplin Kuhlmann Nasser as provisional administrator to oversee management on behalf of creditors. Restructuring specialist Markus Küthe of Heidemann Küthe is supporting the company as general representative.

HENK says all existing customer orders will be completed as planned. The wages and salaries of its roughly 70 employees are covered from October to December 2026 by Germany’s Federal Employment Agency. The company blamed falling demand for office and commercial relocations. It said remote work and flexible workplace arrangements have cut demand for office space, while a weak real estate market and delayed building projects have reduced company moves.

“The problem lies not in the business model itself, but in the fact that the existing cost structures no longer reflect the significantly changed market conditions,” Küthe said. Managing Directors Ludwig and Maurice Henk said they are confident the process will put the company back on a sound financial footing.

IAM Member Impact: Members working with HENK International can expect current jobs to proceed but should review open invoices and confirm payment terms for new work while the proceedings continue. For help with intervention, file unpaid invoices through the IIRS (https://mx.mobilityex.com/iirs/). If HENK International ceases to exist or files for bankruptcy, invoices may be eligible for RPP compensation if they are reported to IAM within 120 days of the invoice date, so members should report any outstanding HENK invoices promptly.
