The Foreign Minister of Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz is completely open, provided vessels follow the designated route.

The short message posted by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared the strait open to all commercial shipping. It did not mention any requirement for vessels to coordinate passage with Iranian authorities, stipulating only that they use the previously designated route. In response, American President Donald Trump thanked Iranian authorities but said the U.S. naval blockade of Iran’s ports will remain in effect until an agreement is reached with Tehran.

Estimates suggest that as many as 3,000 vessels are stranded west of Hormuz.

IAM Member Impact: If the Strait of Hormuz remains open, the announcement may be the beginning of the end to the chaos for international moving companies shipping to and from the region. IAM will continue to keep members updated.
