The international shipping environment in Mexico is reported to be experiencing heightened operational strain with persistent congestion and procedural disruption at key gateways.
In an update to IAM from IAMX Validated member, Atlasmex, the Mexico City-headquartered company said that the Port of Manzanillo, the country’s busiest Pacific port, has faced significant slowdowns tied to customs interruptions and labor actions, leaving trucks and containers stalled for extended periods. In many cases, inspections and congestion have exceeded 72 hours, creating delays and increased financial exposure for carriers and clients.
In addition, Altasmex reports that trucking and inland logistics are under growing pressure from infrastructure, security, and regulatory factors. Deteriorating road conditions near strategic corridors such as Nuevo Laredo have intensified bottlenecks, while ongoing cargo theft and security risks force carriers to adopt restrictive routing and transit protocols.
Finally, as nearshoring accelerates demand, the company say that evolving customs and regulatory processes add another layer of unpredictability to international shipments arriving in or leaving Mexico. System updates, stricter documentation standards, and procedural changes are slowing some high-volume crossings, particularly when compliance alignment is incomplete.
