Middle East Hostilities Disrupt Industry

Airstrikes on Iran and retaliation across the Middle East has significantly disrupted ocean freight and air-cargo operations, together with day-to-day moving services operations for IAM members.

What we know:

Ocean Freight

  • Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, and CMA CGM have suspended all vessel crossings in the Strait of Hormuz and Suez Canal and re-routed vessels to the Cape of Good Hope.
  • Shipping lines have imposed a surcharge on cargo to and from the Gulf, ranging from US$1,550 to US$2,000 per 20-foot container.

Air Freight

Air Cargo News reported:

  • Carriers including Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad, and Lufthansa have suspended flights due to airspace restrictions until at least Tuesday.

Moving Services Operations

  • Israel, Bahrain, Qata, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Cyprus, are all reported to have been targeted by retaliatory missile strikes from Iran with obvious impact to daily life and the ability to operate normally.
  • IAMTrusted member, Delight International Logistics report that most of the day-to-day operations are active and the company is working on the ground to meet client’s needs. Delight confirm port disruption to imports and exports requiring Storage-in Transit. In contrast, IAMX Validated member AGS Global Solutions Oman, announced that they had paused operations in the country and other offices in the region, to ensure the safety of staff.
  • In Israel, IAMX Validated member, Ocean Relocation, report that packing, deliveries, and warehouse handling, continue to be performed under reduced staffing levels.
  • IAM members are encouraged to reach out to their service providers for updates on any specific shipment.
