Canadian-headquartered Quality Move Management (QMM) has agreed to acquire Federal Companies’ household goods moving operations in the Chicago area, giving the Vancouver-based company its first U.S. location and the ability to haul its own shipments within the United States.
In a press release, QMM said that the deal includes Federal’s Chicago-area staff, owner-operator fleet, and office and warehouse facilities in Lindenhurst, Illinois, and is expected to close in October, subject to customary closing requirements. Chicago will become QMM’s fifth location, joining Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto. QMM said the added U.S. long-haul fleet will increase its hauling capacity by about 30%, and the Chicago operation will serve as a base for further U.S. expansion.
“This expansion allows us to self-haul in the USA, which is a game changer in terms of our service delivery model for our clients with U.S. domestic moving needs,” said QMM President Tim Nager. Chief Commercial Officer Roy Phelps claimed that the acquisition makes QMM the only household goods mover able to handle shipments in Canada, the U.S., and cross-border without subcontracting to another provider. The deal comes as QMM marks its 30th anniversary.
