Wildfires remain active near Boston Bar, British Columbia, a critical link between the Port of Vancouver and inland Canada.
CN and CPKC rail service through the Fraser Canyon has reopened after wildfire activity forced a full closure of tracks in and out of the Port of Vancouver earlier this summer, but fire conditions near Boston Bar remain active. Highway 1 is still closed between Yale and Boston Bar with no reopening estimate, and the premier of the province, David Eby, confirmed 100 additional firefighters from Mexico to help battle the Brunswick fire complex.
In an update to IAM, IAMTrusted member AMJ Campbell International advised that the company has not experienced significant shipment delays and that CN, CPKC, and the Port of Vancouver remain operational, while flagging the B.C. Interior as the area with the greatest ongoing risk.
IAM Member Impact: Members moving shipments through the Port of Vancouver or along CN/CPKC’s Fraser Canyon corridor should treat current stability as provisional rather than resolved; the fire is still active, and firefighting resources are still being reinforced.
