The Chief Executive Officer and President of Cartus, Matthew Tebbe, has welcomed the acquisition of parent company, Anywhere Real Estate, by Compass International Holdings.

In a social media post, Tebbe said that Cartus is an integral part of the combined organization and that the opportunities ahead for Cartus and their clients “are extraordinary.” Tebbe said that 2025 was a “banner year” for the company, which welcomed more than 25 new clients and expanded services on more than 150 client accounts. “As we embark on 2026 with the added resources, investment, and commitment from Compass, we’re positioned to deliver even more,” he said.

Realtor.com reported that the transaction results in the creation of the world’s largest residential real estate broker and now includes brands such as Christie’s, Century 21, ERA, Sotheby’s, and Coldwell Banker. Compass has said the merger will expand its reach into every major American city and 120 countries, with a combined workforce of 340,000 real estate professionals globally.

The speed of the merger, however, that was expected to close later this year, is not without controversy. As highlighted in e-Portal last week, the completion follows concerns to the Justice Department about potential impacts to the industry and consumers. The Wall Street Journal reported that some at the Justice Department wanted to investigate the $1.6 billion merger but were allegedly overruled by senior officials.
