A fragile pause in hostilities has brought partial relief to air cargo operations in the Middle East, with Iraq and Syria reopening their airspace on June 8, but IAM members routing shipments through the region should be prepared for short-term disruption.
Despite an announcement from United States President Trump that a deal with Iran is “largely negotiated and will be announced soon,” covering Hormuz reopening under U.S.-Iran-Oman traffic management, the Strait of Hormuz remains mined and closed to commercial traffic. If a Memorandum of Understanding is signed, mine clearance will require a minimum of 30 days before transit can safely resume.
IAM Member Impact: IAM members should not rebook cargo to Hormuz-routed services in anticipation of a deal. War-risk premiums remain at 8× pre-crisis levels.
